Creative Space Barrett House offers fee free access to one or more spaces in Barrett House to artists, musicians, performers, writers and other creatives for residencies of up to three months in duration. Barrett House provides a unique opportunity for creatives to develop work with a sustainable connection or theme.  Successful applicants may be required to co-locate with other creatives. Council will endeavour to place appropriate applicants together.  Suitability and availability can be discussed at the required site visit. Please note that final space allocation will be at the discretion of the Evaluation Committee.

Location

Barrett House is located at 6 Barrett Place Randwick a 15 minute walk from L2 Light rail and bus route 390X to Bondi Jnc. stops at the bottom of Gilderthorpe Avenue.

Selection Criteria

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be 18 or over and live, work or study in the City of Randwick
  • Applicants can be working across any art form
  • Individuals and groups are encouraged to apply
  • Applicants identifying as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, culturally and/or linguistically diverse, LGBTQIA+, and/or living with a disability are strongly encouraged to apply.

NB. Successful applicants are required to hold public liability insurance for $20,000,000 in any one incident.

Applications will be assessed on:

  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to practising as a professional artist, which may include exhibition history, published writing, education, residencies, awards or prizes
  • The strength and potential of your proposal as measured against other proposals
  • Suitability for Barrett House as a heritage listed community space

The selection panel will include Council staff and an external panellist from an arts background.

Application Process

  1. Applications are now open and will close midnight 17 March and all applicants will be notified by end March. The final offers will be made to conclude 31 December 2024.
  2. Application is via electronic form which is accessible HERE. Complete the details, upload any attachments and click the SUBMIT button. You will receive an email response from Council acknowledging receipt.
  3. Applicants will be shortlisted and will be invited to attend a site visit and nominate preferred space.  Important: successful applicants will also be required to provide on-site staff for invigilation and events.
  4. Successful applicants will be required to sign a licence agreement with Council.
  5. Successful applicants will also be supported by Council to engage with the community via a public program e.g. exhibition, workshop, talk/presentation.
