Sustainability Rebates

Sustainability Rebates supports properties in Randwick to implement energy and water saving initiatives.

As part of this program, properties in Randwick can receive up to $5,000 in rebates for purchasing rooftop solar, rainwater tanks, pool pumps, insulation, or one or more of the other current rebate items listed below.


Application Process

1. Check the Eligibility Criteria

Review the Eligibility Criteria for your chosen rebate item. To be eligible to receive a sustainability rebate, your Sustainable Product must have been installed or undertaken in the past 12 months.

2. Purchase your Sustainable Product

Purchase your Sustainable Product from your chosen provider or installer. Ensure that your purchase meets the Eligibility Criteria for your chosen rebate item.

3. Submit an Application Form

Submit an Application Form and attach a recent electricity bill, a photo of your sustainable product (if applicable) and a copy of the invoice from your Sustainable Product provider. Click 'Apply Now' to submit an application form.

4. Receive your Sustainability Rebate

If your form is approved by Council, you will receive your Sustainability Rebate via electronic bank transfer from Rebately. Be sure to check your junk mailbox for your rebate approval email.

Electric Vehicle Charger

Rebate:

  • Household: 25% up to $250
  • Apartment Block: 25% up to $5,000
  • Business: 25% up to $1,000

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Only available for properties in the Randwick Local Government Area.
  • Must be an electric vehicle charger (or electric vehicle infrastructure in apartment blocks).
  • Must be installed by a licenced electrician.
  • Installed within the past 12 months.
  • Not required for BASIX or Development Application Compliance purposes.

Energy Assessment

Rebate:

  • Household: 50% up to $150
  • Apartment Block: 50% up to $1,000
  • Business: 50% up to $500

Overview:

Residential Efficiency Scorecard Assessments (and general energy assessments) help you find out where you use energy and how you can reduce it. You can request a quote for a Residential Efficiency Scorecard Assessment here.

If you would like a general home energy assessment you can request one from another reputable provider.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Only available for properties in the Randwick Local Government Area.
  • For Households: includes Residential Efficiency Scorecard Assessments and general assessments.
  • For Apartment Blocks: includes NABERS Ratings, electric vehicle charging assessments and solar assessments.
  • For Businesses: includes general assessments.
  • Must be completed by a licenced professional.
  • Completed within the past 12 months.

Hot Water System

Rebate:

  • Household: 25% up to $500
  • Apartment Block: 25% up to $5,000
  • Business: 25% up to $1,000

Overview:

Hot water systems are typically the largest user of energy in homes and are great opportunities for energy reductions. Council recommends requesting minimum two quotes.

When installing an electric heat pump or a rooftop solar hot water system, you are also eligible for the Federal Government's STC rebate and the State Government's ESC rebate which is arranged for you by your installer.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Only available for properties in the Randwick Local Government Area.
  • Must be a Clean Energy Council Accredited electric heat pump or rooftop solar hot water system.
  • Excludes swimming pool heat pumps.
  • Installed within the past 12 months.
  • Not required for BASIX or Development Application Compliance purposes.

Induction Cooktop

Rebate:

  • Household: 25% up to $250
  • Business: 25% up to $500

Overview:

Induction cooktops are cleaner, healthier and easier to clean!

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Only available for properties in the Randwick Local Government Area.
  • Must replace either a gas or electric (non-induction) cooktop.
  • Must be installed by a licenced electrician.
  • Installed within the past 12 months.
  • Not required for BASIX or Development Application Compliance purposes.

Insulation

Rebate:

  • Household: 25% up to $500
  • Apartment Block: 25% up to $2,000
  • Business: 25% up to $1,000

Overview:

Insulation reduces the flow of heat into your home in summer and out of your home in winter. Council recommends requesting minimum two quotes.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Only available for properties in the Randwick Local Government Area.
  • Must be installed by a professional installer.
  • Ceiling insulation must have a minimum R value of 3.5.
  • Sub-floor insulation must have a minimum R value of 1.4.
  • Installed within the past 12 months.
  • Not required for BASIX or Development Application Compliance purposes.

R value is a measurement of insulation’s resistance to heat transfer

Lighting

Rebate:

  • Household: 25% up to $250
  • Apartment Block: 25% up to $5,000
  • Business: 25% up to $1,000

Overview:

Replacing old lights with efficient LEDs is one of the easiest and most effective ways of reducing energy use. Council recommends requesting minimum two quotes.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Only available for properties in the Randwick Local Government Area.
  • Must replace either halogen, fluorescent or incandescent lights.
  • Must be installed by a licenced electrician.
  • Installed within the past 12 months.
  • Not required for BASIX or Development Application Compliance purposes.

Pool Pump

Rebate:

  • Household: 50% up to 250
  • Apartment Block: 50% up to 250
  • Business: 50% up to 250

Overview:

In households with a swimming pool or spa, the pump is usually the largest user of electricity. In a recent report prepared by the University of New South Wales in partnership with Randwick Council, efficient pool pumps were found to reduce pool pump energy consumption by an average of 71% and save over $450 per year in electricity bills.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Only available for properties in the Randwick Local Government Area.
  • New pool pumps (and controllers) must have a minimum 7 Energy Star Rating (find your rating).
  • Must be installed by a licenced professional for swimming pool filtration only.
  • Installed within the past 12 months.
  • Not required for BASIX or Development Application Compliance purposes.

Rainwater Tank

Rebate:

  • Household: 25% up to $250
  • Apartment Block: 25% up to $2,000
  • Business: 25% up to $1,000

Overview:

Rainwater tanks capture excess water from your roof for use in garden areas or reducing mains water supply. See Sydney Water's rainwater tanks page for more information.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Only available for properties in the Randwick Local Government Area.
  • Minimum capacity of 1,000 litres.
  • Must be installed by a licensed plumber.
  • Installed within the past 12 months.
  • Not required for BASIX or Development Application Compliance purposes.

Internal connection examples include connections to toilets, internal taps and laundries.

Rooftop Solar

Rebate:

  • Household: 10% up to $500
  • Apartment Block: 10% up to $5,000
  • Business: 10% up to $1,000

Overview:

Solar Battery

Rebate:

  • Household: 10% up to $1,000
  • Apartment Block: 10% up to $2,000
  • Business: 10% up to $1,000

Overview:

Solar batteries capture the excess electricity from your solar panels for use when you need it most. Council recommends requesting minimum two quotes.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Only available for properties in the Randwick Local Government Area.
  • Must be installed by a Clean Energy Council or New Energy Tech Consumer Code (NETCC) Accredited Installer.
  • Installed within the past 12 months.
  • Not required for BASIX or Development Application Compliance purposes.

Solar Health Check

Rebate:

  • Household: 50% up to $100
  • Apartment Block: 50% up to $100
  • Business: 50% up to $100

Overview:

Solar health checks will tell you if your rooftop solar is working effectively and if any maintenance is required. Council recommends requesting minimum two quotes.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Only available for properties in the Randwick Local Government Area.
  • Must be completed by a licenced electrician.
  • Provided within the past 12 months.

WaterFix®

Rebate:

  • Household: 25% up to $250
  • Apartment Block: 25% up to $2,000
  • Business: 25% up to $1,000

Overview:

WaterFix® Residential is an initiative of Sydney Water to provide free or subsidised replacements of inefficient taps, showerheads, toilets, aerators and leak repairs. Visit WaterFix® Residential call 1800 807 475 for more information or to make an appointment.

WaterFix® Strata delivers large scale, cost-effective water savings to inefficient residential strata-managed buildings. Over 87% of water use in apartment buildings occurs within each apartment, mostly from showers. Strata buildings in the program have achieved water savings of up to 30%. If there is a fee for our WaterFix® job, the cost will be added to your Sydney Water bills.

Eligibility Criteria:
