Joe Timbery was a world-renowned boomerang thrower from the Aboriginal Community of La Perouse. His exceptional skills not only made him a local legend but also took him all around the world to showcase the art of boomerang throwing. His collection of hand-crafted boomerangs is on loan in the La Perouse Museum courtesy of the Wallangang Aboriginal Corporation.

Joe spent all of his adult life in La Perouse and many of his boomerangs were carved from local mangrove wood in the Kamay Botany Bay region. He was celebrated for his mastery in throwing as well as carving boomerangs, and even offered lessons in throwing to celebrities like ABBA, the Bee Gees and Johnny O'Keefe. He demonstrated his art of boomerang throwing in Paris under the Eiffel Tower, and in front of the Taj Mahal.

One of the highlights of his career was during the 1954 visit by Queen Elizabeth ll to Australia, where he presented the Queen with boomerangs he personally crafted.

Joe was also a storyteller at heart, with a passion for writing poetry and painting. His life and work continue to inspire those interested in the rich cultural heritage of Australia and in the art of boomerang making and throwing.
