Citizenship Ceremonies at Randwick City Council

Randwick City Council is holding two in-person citizenship ceremonies each month at the Prince Henry Centre in Little Bay. Ceremonies are by invitation only.

Council does not determine the order in which new citizens are scheduled for their ceremonies. For urgent requests, please contact the Department of Home Affairs on 131 880. The Department does not have an email contact available.

PLEASE NOTE neither the Council or the Department of Home Affairs are able to advise where you sit on the waiting list. If you have exceptional circumstances and wish to request an expedited ceremony, please contact the Department on 131 880 to discuss with them. You will be required to provide evidence to support the circumstances for their consideration. Please note the Department does not consider overseas holidays, visiting sick relatives, business trips, working overseas, or general employment opportunities as exceptional circumstances.

How to start the citizenship process

To start the process of becoming an Australian citizen, please contact the Department of Home Affairs.

Once your application has been processed by the Department, you receive an approval letter and go on a wait list to be invited to a ceremony.

After you have been approved and your waiting time is complete, you will receive an invitation from the Department approximately two weeks before your allocated ceremony with all the details of the ceremony including arrival time, address, what you need to bring with you and if you are able to bring any guests with you.

The citizenship ceremony where you are presented with your certificate is the final step in becoming a new citizen. You become an Australian citizen on the date you attend the citizenship ceremony and make the pledge of commitment to Australia.

If you have any questions about the ceremony or the application process please contact the Department of Home Affairs hotline on 131 880. Please note that neither the Council or the Department are able to advise where you sit on the waiting list. If you have exceptional circumstances and wish to request an expedited ceremony, please contact the Department to discuss with them. You will be required to provide evidence to support the circumstances for their consideration.

If you are unable to attend your ceremony you must contact the Department immediately. You may receive a standard non-attendance letter and be reallocate to the next possible ceremony. If you do not advise the Department that you cannot attend and you miss your ceremony, we are unable to provide you with your certificate and it must be returned to the Department. If you require a replacement certificate, you will need to contact the Department on 131 880.
