Space to Create
A residency program for creatives to practice, develop and share their skills.
Randwick City Council is committed to supporting the growth and diversity of arts and cultural activities in ways that benefit the community, business, and visitors to the area.
Space to Create is a residency program located on the third floor of Lionel Bowen Library. Eight suites of varying sizes are available in the new space for a six-to-12-month residency period. Creatives will need to pay a small, affordable fee to use the space. For more information on fees, see below.
The residency is open to all writers and creatives working across various artforms (e.g., digital art, fashion, calligraphy, collage, crafts, drawing, graphic art, installation art, jewellery, mixed media, painting, mosaics, textile art, film, video, video games etc).
Space to Create: 2026 residency applications now open!
Following the successful Space to Create residency in 2025, Randwick City Library once again welcomes applications from local artists and creatives for the 2026 residency program.
Expressions of Interest to become a Space to Create 2026 resident open at 9.30am on Friday 10 October and close at 11.59pm on Friday 7 November 2025.
Applicants will be notified of their EOI outcome by 24 November 2025, with successful applicants starting their residency on 12 January 2026.

Eight residents will be selected to occupy suites in the space for up to a year. As part of their residency, they are encouraged to organise creative events for the library community or showcase their works in an exhibition at the library. This aligns with the library’s place as a vibrant social and cultural hub in the community, offering talks, programs and creative activities to the thousands of people who visit the library each week.
