Randwick City Library was filled with laughter and cheer as we celebrated the 40th birthday of the Toy Library Service. The day was jam-packed with fun, and excitement spread across various locations within Lionel Bowen Library.  All the wonderful events, equipment, and facilities the library has to offer were on display.

“The Toy Library is such a great service for our community. Not only does it provide low-cost toys for members, but it’s a sustainable way to provide toys for your children’s ever-changing needs,” said Councillor Philipa Veitch, Mayor of Randwick, who attended the event.

“The fact the toy library has been running for 40-years a testament to our community and our library. It’s clear the community love it and the service is of a great standard,” said Mayor Veitch.

The 40th anniversary celebration was an opportunity to show all the library services.  English and Multicultural Storytime ran throughout the day, with children participating in nursery rhymes, listening to stories, and learning all about different cultures and languages.

An all-day come-and-play session was very popular, with toys from the library on display for the kids to enjoy. There were slides and ride- on buggies, as well as pretend-play kits and learning toys. The children and their parents were able to gain a taste of what is available to borrow from the toy library for all ages and interests.

Plus, there were drinks, snacks, and party bags, as well as face-painting and relaxing bean bags to rest on.

Demonstrations and fun activities were conducted all day in the Makerspace, showing off the different creative facilities and capacities of the library. And of course, it wouldn't be a birthday party without party games, slime-making workshops, and cake!
