An intensive cleaning and maintenance program involving up to 50 workers will take place in the Randwick Town Centre on Wednesday 3 April 2024, Randwick Mayor Philipa Veitch announced today.

The one-day program will be delivered by Randwick Council staff from multiple departments who have been affectionately dubbed the ‘Blitz team’.

“While maintenance and improvements have and always will be core business for Council, the difference with the Blitz team is the intensity and methodical nature of the program,” Randwick Mayor Philipa Veitch said.

“Cleaning, repairs, upgrades and improvements that might have been scheduled over a longer period will now be delivered in as little as one day, providing an instant boost for the shopping strip and supporting our local businesses.”

The types of works being undertaken will include sweeping, pressure washing, graffiti and chewing gum removal, painting, landscaping, tree works and tree planting, repairs to benches, bins, signs, pavers and pit lids along with anything else that needs fixing.

Council’s Place Coordinators have been door-knocking local businesses to inform them about the works and to identify areas for focus.

Works will commence from 4am and due to the scale of the operation there will be some reduced parking along Belmore Road throughout the day.

The Blitz team will focus on other town centres across the Randwick Local Government Area over the coming months and years.
