Households across Randwick City are receiving new rubbish (red lid) and recycling (yellow lid) bins from this week, Monday 4 January 2021, as part of a new collection contract.

A new FOGO (green lid) bin for food and garden organics will be delivered from 15 February 2021.

What you need to know about your new bins:

1. The new bins will be left on the kerbside. Check the address sticker matches your property, then take them in and store them on your property – but don’t start using them yet.
2. Put your old bins out on your next collection day and they will be emptied as usual.
3. After collection, leave your old bins on the kerb and they will be taken away by a separate truck and recycled to make new bins.
4. Once your old bins have been taken you can start to use your new bins. Please don’t keep any old bins as these will no longer be emptied.

If you’re going to be away the week of the bin swap, please ask a friend or neighbour to bring your new bins in and take your old bins out.

If you see someone hasn’t brought their bins in, please put it somewhere safe on their property.

For people living in free-standing houses, your new red-lidded rubbish bin will be a larger 240L bin compared to your current 140L bin.

The new bin delivery will ensure all households have the right size bins and that they are all function – as some old ones may be broken and damaged. The new bins will have high recycled content. Your new bins will also have information on the lids to tell you what to put in each bin. Providing new bins to residents is more cost effective in the long run compared to partial replacement of old bins.

There is no change to your collection day. You would have received in your mailbox a collection calendar for January and February 2021.

From March 2021 there may be a change to some households to the collection frequency of your bins.

For people living in free-standing houses, your FOGO bin will be collected weekly while your recycling and rubbish bins will be collected fortnightly on alternate weeks.

For people living in apartments, your rubbish and FOGO bin will be collected weekly and your recycling bin will continue to be collected fortnightly.

All households will receive a new 2021 (Mar-Dec) waste calendar and FOGO welcome pack in February 2021
