SERGEANT ALBERT VICTOR TUCK

Bert holds a special place in the hearts and memories of members of the South Maroubra Surf Life Saving Club. He is honoured in the Fallen Lifesaver Memorial at Coogee and the surf club has honoured him by placing a wreath in the club’s colours on his grave on the Gallipoli Peninsula. He served in WWI and died on 26 April 1915, one day after the initial landings at Gallipoli.

MAROUBRA
Danny served 35 years in the Royal Australian Air Force, including in Afghanistan, where he completed 85 combat missions. He battled PTSD, depression, and anxiety after returning in 2013. Sport and the Invictus Games played a key role in his recovery, leading him to mentor others in mental health. Danny now supports veterans advocating for mental health awareness and is a member of the Maroubra RSL subbranch.

LITTLE BAY
Edith trained at the Coast Hospital in Little Bay and graduated 1912. Unable to enlist in the Australian Army, she enlisted in Queen Alexandria's Imperial Military Service in England as a nurse. She served in Egypt and is the only Australian nurse to die during WWI in direct conflict on the sinking of "Glenard Castle" on 26 February 1918 by German U-boat.

Ted served in WWII in the southwest pacific on several islands within the anti-aircraft units. He is nominated by Coogee Randwick Clovelly Subbranch RSL NSW and recently passed away in 2024.

MATRAVILLE
Vic was a well-known Matraville local who served in the Australian Army in Vietnam. He enlisted at the age of 19 and fought in one of the most well-known Australian engagements of the war – the battle of Long Tan. This conflict saw his company – D Company 6 RAR ambushed by about 2,000 Viet Cong. The 105 strong company held out for four hours until support arrived. Vic died in 2020.

Terry has worked in the Randwick City area since 1983 and been a local resident since 1979. He served at Randwick Barracks for six years and volunteers time for surf lifesaving, junior rugby league and has also served as a fire fighter. He’s a currently serving member of the Australian Army.
