Immerse yourself in an authentic silent film experience this May.

Honouring Randwick's own silent cinema history, this special screening showcases The Breaking of the Drought created by former Randwick resident Franklyn Barrett.

Severe drought is crippling the outback and the Galloway family are struggling under extreme conditions. To make matters worse, their wastrel son is swindled out of the family fortune by an unscrupulous vamp and her con-man partner.

Using documentary footage shot by Franklyn Barrett in Narrabri and Moree, this classic early Australian film tells a story of struggle and restoration.

Before the film soak up the sounds of the Ringway Maestro organ as John S. Batts sets the scene. Then hear from film expert Gregory Dologopolov from UNSW as he introduces the film and answers your burning questions.

As the film starts rolling you'll be treated to a live organ accompaniment and will witness the 'visual ingenuity' Barrett is known for.

Step back in time as we revel in silent film history.

Doors open at 7.10pm with pre-screening organ entertainment. The film has a duration of 1 hour 20 minutes and will be followed by a Q&A.
