Statement from the Mayor of Randwick,  Philipa Veitch:

“This afternoon’s incident at Bondi Junction has shocked and horrified us all.

“As a neighbouring council area our hearts go out to the victims, families and loved ones affected by this unprecedented tragedy.

“This will affect many people in our community so please reach out if you need support.

“We thank all the emergency service personnel for their response including the senior police officer for her bravery in confronting the assailant. Thank you to staff at the shopping centre who sheltered customers as the crisis unfolded.

“Thank you also to our hard-working paramedics, nurses and doctors who will be working through the night to treat the injured.”
