Mayor Philipa Veitch opening new South Maroubra Amenities building surrounded by community members

Visiting Maroubra beach has just been made easier with the opening of a new amenities building at South Maroubra Beach. The building was officially opened on Sunday 22 October, just in time for the Maroubra Fun Run and Spring Festival, 2023.

“This area of the beach is incredibly popular as people pass through on a coastal walk or stop to have a BBQ behind the beach. The new building will ensure visiting South Maroubra is much more comfortable,” said Councillor Philipa Veitch, Mayor of Randwick.

The accessible amenities include male, female and unisex bathrooms as well as showers, baby change facilities and a communal wash basin. The new facilities assist the broader community with additional storage rooms created for the South Maroubra Surf Lifesaving Club and Surfing NSW.  The project also included upgrades to paths, landscaped areas and parking spaces to ensure accessibility.

Situated in a prime location beside the South Maroubra Surf Lifesaving Club, the building is perfectly located for those spending the day on the beach, picnicking, or following the coastal walk.

Designed with a focus on sustainability and the natural surroundings, the building was constructed to hug the natural sand dunes behind it and was architecturally designed to use large amounts of natural light and ventilation.

Additionally, the amenities were built on an empty green patch so that no trees, including the native Banksia, had to be removed.

Construction took 12 months to complete and is a major investment in the South Maroubra area.
