A concept plan for an amenities building at Malabar Ocean Pool has been released this week, 30 May 2023, for community feedback.

Malabar Ocean Pool is a popular ocean pool in Sydney’s eastern suburbs providing year-round swimming options and easier access for people of all abilities with a ramp to the pool deck and a ramp into the pool.

However the pool does not have toilet or change facilities for pool users which makes it inconvenient for visitors, families with young children, older people and those with a disability.

Randwick Mayor Dylan Parker said the concept plan has been developed based on community feedback.

“People told us they love the local feel of Malabar Ocean Pool and support an amenities building provided it is compact, preserves sensitive bushland and retains views,” Mayor Parker said.

“We’ve responded to this feedback and designed a building that is modest in size and located at the car park level to serve both pool users and walkers.

“We are committed to ensuring everyone has the opportunity to access our community facilities and this concept plan helps achieve this.”

The concept plan includes two unisex toilets, two change cubicles and a fully accessible toilet / change area. New landscaping, seating and bike racks will be provided.

The community is encouraged to view the concept plans and FAQs on Council’s Your Say Randwick website and to provide their feedback on the proposal.

Two drop in information sessions will also be held giving interested people the opportunity to speak directly with Council staff and the architects about the concept plan.
