More than 50 Randwick City Council staff from multiple departments today completed an intensive one-day cleaning and maintenance program at Randwick Town Centre, the first in a series of ‘Blitz team’ operations across Randwick City.

“Maintenance and improvements will always be the daily business Council, but by concentrating our resources on one town centre at a time, our hard-working staff can work with greater intensity in a highly coordinated effort that delivers spectacular results,” Randwick Mayor Philipa Veitch said.

“Today we delivered in a single day, cleaning, repairs, upgrades and improvements to the Randwick Town Centre area that would previously have been scheduled over an extended period, providing an instant boost for the shopping strip. We really zhuzhed it up.”

  • Fixed and installed 220 pavers
  • Laid 19 cubic metres of mulch
  • Fixed 35 street maintenance pits
  • Poured 15 square metres of concrete footpath
  • Changed 90 street signs
  • Painted 16 seats
  • Replaced 12 litter and recycling bins
  • Cleaned 6,000 square metres of pavement
  • Installed 5 new recycling bins on Belmore Road
  • Removed graffiti tags and cleaned all signposts and traffic signs of stickers and tape.

“I’m very grateful for the hard work and dedication of all staff involved in delivering these incredible results, and for the work they put into cleaning and maintaining our streets every day of the year,” said Mayor Philipa Veitch.

In the lead up to the ‘blitz’, Council’s Place Coordinators door-knocked local businesses to inform them about the works and to identify areas for focus.

The ‘Blitz team’ will focus on other town centres across the Randwick Local Government Area over the coming months and years.
