Published - Friday 14 Nov 2014 3:20PM: Randwick City Council staff have taken samples of a blue liquid found leaking from the cliff face at Malabar Bay today, Friday 14 November 2014.
It is not known at this stage what the substance is, but Council has sent samples to be analysed and has advised Sydney Water and the NSW Environmental Protection Authority.
As a precaution Randwick City Council Lifeguards have closed Malabar Beach and the Malabar Ocean Pool until further notice.
The blue substance was found this afternoon leaking out of a cliff face west of the Malabar Ocean Pool. The nearest street reference is the corner of Bay Parade and Howe Street, Malabar.
The substance has no detectable odour and appears to be coming out of the groundwater through the cliff face.
Residents are advised to avoid swimming in the area as a precaution until more is known about the substance.
