At the request of the Police, special event road closures will still take place this year.

As you're likely aware, the Coogee Sparkles New Year’s Eve fireworks event has been cancelled. This was a difficult decision to make, but we could not guarantee public safety with the threat of COVID-19 still circulating in our community.

While the fireworks are not on, the local police have requested Council implement the regular road closures on New Year’s Eve to assist with maintaining public safety. They have strong concerns that crowds will gather at the beach, even though there are no fireworks or other events planned. Accordingly, the following usual traffic changes will be implemented on New Year’s Eve:

Special event clearways will be in place on 31 December 2020 between 12 midday and 10:00pm in the following streets:

Alfreda Street – both sides from Brook Street to Arden Street

Arden Street – both sides from Bream Street to Carr Street

Coogee Bay Road – both sides from Brook Street to Arden Street

Dolphin Street – both sides from Brook Street to Arden Street

A road closure will be in place on 31 December 2020 between 12 midday and 9:30pm at:

Alfreda Street from Brook Street to Arden Street.
