Clean Up Australia Day

Randwick City Council will support the clean-up endeavours of individuals and community groups participating in Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday 3 March by removing all rubbish collected on the day, Randwick Mayor Kathy Neilson announced.

Clean Up Australia Day is held on the first Sunday of March every year and encourages people to clean up their local areas. Participants can host or attend clean ups organised by local community groups, which can be found on the Clean Up Australia website.

“Clean Up Australia is a wonderful initiative that produces benefits for the whole community,” said Randwick Mayor Kathy Neilson. “Volunteers can see results within a couple of hours, and get to enjoy time spent outside amongst friends and like-minded neighbours who want to help the environment.”

The annual Clean Up Australia Day was first started 20 years ago by founder and Chairman Ian Kiernan AO, who passed away on 16 October 2018. Australians have devoted 33 million hours to cleaning up the environment, through Clean Up Australia Day removing the equivalent of more than 350,000 ute loads of rubbish.
