Council is responsible for managing flooding and to reduce the risk of flooding on people and properties. A Flood Study was completed in 2013 to determine the behaviour and extent of flooding in the Coogee Bay catchment.  The Flood Study was then used to assess flood management options and to develop the draft Coogee Bay Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan.

Mayor of Randwick, Noel D’Souza, said that intense rains or storms have affected the area during the past few years.

“The Coogee Bay Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan is essential to help minimise the risk of flooding for the years to come.

“We’ve all seen the intensity of the recent Sydney Storm which affected Coogee and sadly, we have regular flooding issues in the Coogee Bay region whenever there is a huge downpour.

“We’re looking to work with affected residents to identify the best way to reduce flooding impacts on people and property and we encourage people to provide feedback on the draft plan,” said Mayor D’Souza.

The draft plan is on public exhibition from 8 July to 5 August 2016 and can be viewed:

There will also be a community drop in session held at Coogee Legion Club on Thursday 21 July between 6pm and 8pm.  Residents will be able to speak directly with Council staff about the plan, ask any questions and provide any feedback.
