--------------------
The weaving workshop segment will be guided by Kodie Mason, who is a local Dharawal, Ngarigo, and Dunghutti woman from the La Perouse Aboriginal community.
Among other traditional plant uses, Kodie has learnt Indigenous weaving methods from a young age which she’ll share in the class.
Each participant will create their own basket to take home at the end of the session and learn about different local Indigenous fibrous plants and their uses.
In this particular workshop, participants will be weaving with plant material from the invasive vine Coastal Morning Glory (Ipomaea cairica), to be gathered in the weeding segment on Monday the 27th of May and stored in the St. Michael’s cart shed.
This workshop is appropriate for ages 13+, but all ages are welcome to drop in during the class timeframe and can be guided in making bracelets or rope.
Morning tea and all materials provided.
Come learn some precious craft techniques from Kodie, and actively participate in protecting critically endangered Eastern Suburbs Banksia Scrub and Coastal Sand-Apple Bloodwood Forest remnants from some contemporary bushland management stressors.
Deepen your engagement with the natural landscape and your own and others’ cultural practices.
There is limited class capacity for this basket weaving workshop. Even though it's a free event, please book your spot if you wish to attend.
