Young students lining up at a barbecue hosted by Souths Cares and Randwick Council

Randwick City Council and Souths Cares hosted their annual Junior League Clinic on Tuesday, with five local primary schools attending the event at Heffron Park.

The free event kicked off with a barbecue lunch, followed by a group warm-up before participants were split into age groups to rotate through a variety of rugby league skills-based games and drills.

Rabbitohs players Cody Walker, Latrell Mitchell, Jacob Host, Tallis Duncan, Izaac Tu'itupou Thompson and Leon Te Hau joined the Souths Cares team to facilitate the clinic and share their knowledge of the game with students.

Despite some challenging wet and windy weather conditions at Heffron Park, the Junior Clinic was a great success with more than 350 students embracing the opportunity to learn from the Rabbitohs playing group.

Souths Cares chief executive officer Alisha Parker-Elrez explained the Randwick Council Clinic was about providing local school students with an unforgettable experience with Souths Cares and the Rabbitohs.

“While the weather wasn’t the best, we were inspired by the smiles on all the kids faces that participated in the clinic," she said.

"It was great to see so many happy faces running around, and I would like to thank Randwick City Council for supporting the clinic and our local schools for getting behind this great initiative."

The annual Junior Clinic forms part of a broader partnership between Souths Cares and Randwick City Council, which work collaboratively across education programs, health promotion programs and community events within the Randwick LGA.

Randwick City Council and Souths Cares would like to give a special thanks to Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Primary School, Maroubra Junction Public School, Matraville Soldiers' Settlement Public School, Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School and St Aidan's Catholic Primary School for attending the Junior Clinic.
