NAIDOC Week 2023

Traditional dance, campfires, storytelling and crafts will celebrate First Nation’s vibrant culture and history at this year’s Centennial Parkland’s NAIDOC event on Sunday 9 July, 2023.

“Randwick City Council is delighted to be partnering with Centennial Parklands and Waverley Council to bring everyone together, young and old, to celebrate and experience traditional performances, storytelling and workshops, which shed light on the invaluable knowledge and rich heritage of our First Nations community,” Randwick City Council Mayor Dylan Parker said.

Kicking off with a Welcome to County and smoking ceremony at 3pm, then the all-female First Nations Djaadjawan Dance and Culture Group will offer workshops for all ages including weaving and shell art.

The theme for 2023 National NAIDOC Week is ‘For Our Elders’, an acknowledgement of the role Elders played, and continue to play, in our communities and families.

Everyone is encouraged to come along and get involved on the day, to better understand and appreciate First Nations stories, traditions and culture.

The Parkland’s 2023 NAIDOC event will wrap up with a sunset tour around the wetlands led by Parklands’ educators to visit nocturnal animals including the Flying Fox colony.
