Randwick City Council has temporarily closed Malabar Ocean Pool while action is taken to replace the pool’s pump.

The pump is used to empty and fill the pool with ocean water and to facilitate cleaning and maintenance.

Due to the weight of the pump, a crane must be used to remove and replace the existing pump with a new one. These actions can only be undertaken during a low tide, which occurs approximately once per month.

It is anticipated replacement of the pump will occur during the month of April and the pool will be reopened shortly after.

Malabar Ocean Pool is located near Malabar Beach in Long Bay directly below Randwick Golf Club.
