Kensington Park Community Centre Official Opening

A new community centre at Kensington Park will be officially opened at an exciting open day with something for everyone on Saturday July 8 2017.

The ribbon will be cut by Mayor D’Souza at the morning event, which will also feature kids’ activities, live music, a jumping castle and free morning tea.

Visitors can expect vibrant music from Sugar Bowl Hokum, kids’ activities with Little Ginger Art Studio and Tutu Ballet Studio, plus a basketball clinic with Bounce Basketball Troupe.

Council has renovated the former bowling club at Kensington into a modern community centre, which is available to hire by the community. The building features two rooms catering for up to 100 and 130 people, and looks out over landscaped gardens with lemon trees, large grassed areas and a basketball court.

The new centre has been built retaining the former bowling club building brick walls, roof and historic foundation stones, whilst also adding modern elements such as solar panels and rainwater irrigation.

The former Kensington Bowling Club closed its doors in 2013 after entering into administration and the building was handed back to Council. A detailed community consultation followed and a plan for a new community centre with substantial open space was developed.

Mayor D’Souza said: ‘Be sure to mark July 8 in your diaries as it’s set to be a fantastic celebration of this brilliant new community asset. Council is proud to not only be able to provide buildings like these, but to offer something that the community really wants, following a detailed consultation period.’
