Construction of a temporary lifeguard office begins

With construction of new Coogee Beach toilets, showers and changerooms on the lower promenade of Coogee Beach due to begin, the Coogee Beach Lifeguard Office will be temporarily relocated along the promenade towards the middle of the beach.

The temporary office is needed as the current Lifeguard office will be demolished and rebuilt as part of the project.

The Mayor of Randwick, Noel D’Souza, advised beachgoers that the Lifeguards will continue their normal patrols via a temporary home, a little further along the promenade, so work can begin on the construction of the new facilities.

“It’s really exciting to know that construction is about to begin on new beach facilities, which will include 21 new toilets and 12 showers including accessible cubicles, male and female changerooms, a family change area with additional showers, public lockers and a new Lifeguard Office and kiosk.

“The first phase of construction is to see the Lifeguard Office temporarily relocated. Council Lifeguards will continue to patrol the beach from their temporary office,” said Mayor D’Souza.

The work is part of Randwick City Council’s ongoing commitment to improving facilities and services for residents and is expected to be completed in 2017.
