Surfing walk of fame inductees

Over the weekend, I had the great privilege of inducting four surfing and surf lifesaving icons into the Australian Surfing Walk of Fame at Maroubra Beach as part of our annual Beach Breaks Carnival.

Mr Steve Wilson, one of the best surfers to come out of Maroubra in the 70s, went on to chase the World Tour and was a regular in all the major surf magazines of the day. Mr Ron McKeon is one of our City’s most outstanding athletes. He represented Australia in two Commonwealth and two Olympic Games and won seven gold medals at the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships.

Ms Jessi Miley-Dyer, who grew up in Coogee, is a former ASP World Junior Champion and ASP World No.4 elite competitor and is arguably one of the world leaders in women's surfing. Lastly, it was an honour to induct the late Mr Walter Brown. Walter was a member of Maroubra Surf Club and an Olympic bronze medalist in 1956.

Congratulations to these four incredibly talented individuals.
