As tens of thousands of beachgoers soak up the warm weather on Randwick City's beautiful beaches this summer, Lifeguards are pleading to swimmers to only swim between the flags.

Senior Lifeguard Peter Halcro said everyday this summer Council lifeguards are rescuing more and more people who continue swimming outside the flags.

"If you're not a strong swimmer you need to be careful – particularly at our more dangerous beaches like Maroubra. Areas that look calm often have rips and are not good places to swim.

"Lifeguards place the flags in the safest area of each beach, so please only swim between the flags, and if possible, do not swim alone.

"Lifeguards place the flags in the most appropriate area of each beach, so please only swim between the flags and follow the direction of all beach signage. With thousands of people in the water at any one time, we need everybody's help to ensure everyone can have an enjoyable and safe day," Mr Halcro said.

Coogee and Maroubra Beaches are patrolled from 7am to 7pm and Clovelly Beach is patrolled from 8.30am to 6pm.
