Randwick City Council - Mayor's message - 1 July 2014

Today marks the start of the new financial year, and I am pleased to say there are many projects on the horizon in Randwick City.

At last week's Council meeting (24 June 2014) Council endorsed its $158 million budget for 2014-15 after extensive community feedback and support on the proposed projects, works and budget allocations for the next twelve months.

Pleasingly, our budget is very strong. It continues our tradition of delivering the quality services our residents have come to expect, without any borrowings, whilst maintaining balanced books. There is more than $32 million allocated for capital works projects, and a record $10 million for roads, footpaths, and drainage upgrades.

As Mayor of Randwick City, I am proud that the Council has maintained its strong record of delivering high quality services and facilities while remaining debt-free.

The approved 2014-15 program of works also includes:

$4.3 million for construction of new public toilets, showers and change-rooms and associated landscaping at Coogee Beach

$3 million for Coogee Bay Road upgrade including new footpath paving and new street furniture (in addition to the funding already allocated for undergrounding of powerlines)

$1.4 million for new toilets and change rooms at Mahon Pool, Maroubra

$800,000 for the extension of the Coastal Walkway

$140,000 for storm water harvesting at Maroubra Beach

$110,000 for restoration works to the La Perouse Museum
