The improved and much expanded amenities building at Coogee Beach was officially opened on Friday 1 September 2017 by Randwick Mayor Noel D’Souza.

“The new facilities are a real asset to the community and further builds upon Coogee Beach’s status as Sydney’s most popular beach,” Mayor D’Souza said. “The structure has been built into Goldstein Reserve and provides 750sqm of change areas, showers and toilets that are easily accessible from the beach.

“When we consulted with the community in 2014 they told us very strongly that more toilets are needed close to the beach.

“We’ve listened and built a well-designed, conveniently located facility for the community that more than doubles the number of toilets, showers and changerooms without taking away any open space from Goldstein Reserve,” Randwick Mayor Noel D’Souza said.

The new building is effectively underground and has been carefully designed to maximise natural light and air flow to create a bright and inviting space. In addition to the toilets and changerooms it includes an office for Council’s Lifeguards and outdoor workers, a kiosk, public lockers and storage space for Coogee Surf Life Saving Club.

The design of the building took into account the wild weather conditions experienced at Coogee Beach and flood modelling was undertaken to minimise the impact to the building from storm damage.
