Chemicals

Keeping the environment safe

Examples of chemical waste include everyday products such as bleach, oven cleaner, mineral turpentine and paint that you get from the supermarket or hardware store.

Did you know? Many types of chemical waste may be flammable, corrosive, toxic or even explosive.

Disposing of hazardous waste

We ask residents not to store chemical waste items in their homes, or put chemical wastes in their rubbish bins, as you would be creating a hazard for waste collectors, sorters and increasing the risk for environmental damage.

NSW EPA hosts 2 Household Chemical CleanOut events each year. Find out when the next Chemical CleanOut is scheduled for the Randwick area.

At these events, you can drop off:

  • Solvents and household cleaners
  • Floor care products
  • Ammonia based cleaners
  • Fluorescent globes and tubes
  • Car batteries
  • Motor oils, fuel and fluids
  • Paint and paint related products
  • Pesticides and herbicides
  • Poisons
  • Gas bottles
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Pool chemicals
  • Hobby chemicals
  • Acids and alkalis.
