It has been a wet and wild start to July, with heavy rains and strong winds causing severe damage in several areas in Randwick City.

Rainfalls of up to 99mm and winds up to 55km/h swept through Sydney’s eastern suburbs over the past 24 hours, causing flooding and bringing down large trees and branches on major roads and streets.

Council Lifeguards have reported dangerous conditions at all beaches in Randwick City and are urging people to not swim, surf or rock fish. Coogee and Maroubra Beaches remain closed today while Lifeguards are asking swimmers within the protected Clovelly bay to proceed with caution.

Randwick Mayor Dylan Parker urged community members to take care while outside. “Please watch out for potential hazards and dangers such as fallen trees, damaged property, and slippery paths and roads.

“Randwick Council is working closely with the State Emergency Service on clearing fallen trees and other hazards on our roads and public spaces, to keep the community safe.”
