Three children wearing black and yellow school uniforms play on new green and silver monkey bars at the Alison Park Playground in Randwick. Randwick City Council has reopened the popular Alison Park Playground, unveiling an exciting, colourful and novel new playground for children of all ages and abilities.

“We’re so excited to open this beautiful new playground to the public. It’s brighter, safer, more engaging and inclusive for children of all ages and abilities. By all reports, it is also a lot more fun!”, said Randwick Mayor Philipa Veitch.

“It’s the latest of eight playgrounds that Randwick Council has upgraded in the last five years, part of our ongoing commitment to improving open spaces and to the wellbeing of children and their families.”.

Located at the south-west corner of Alison Park, the 491-square metre playground has brought joy to the community since 1986, when play equipment was first installed.

During community consultation, Council incorporated ideas from local children and their families, such as a run roller and nest swing, into the possible designs. Presented with two concept plans, participants then voted on their favourite.

“I’m really proud of the design that Council and the community co-created”, said Mayor Veitch.

“If we truly want our playgrounds to be accessible and fun for all, it is vitally important that children have a say.”

The old playground was fully removed and new fencing, non-toxic rubber softfall and play equipment installed. The upgraded park features all new play equipment, and more of it. Specifically designed to be accessible to children of all ages and abilities, the equipment includes areas for percussion play to enhance children’s development.

The upgrade also includes the installation of a larger shade cloth, to provide 42 percent coverage of the space, a new water bubbler and sheltered picnic setting.

The Alison Park Playground is now open for use. Residents are invited to join Randwick Mayor Philipa Veitch for the formal opening celebration on Thursday 16 May from 3pm to 4:30pm. Check Council's webpage, enews and social media for updates.
