Randwick City Council and the Ritz Cinemas presented a very special event, An Evening with David & Margaret, to a full theatre of movie lovers last week on Sunday 1 June 2025.

The one-hour live show brought together two of Australia’s most beloved film critics, David Stratton and Margaret Pomeranz, for a nostalgic and entertaining look back at their 28 years on television.

The pair revisited the highlights, lowlights and surprises from The Movie Show and At The Movies, which made them household names and champions of Australian cinema.

To celebrate their contribution to the film industry, David and Margaret were also inducted into the Australian Film Walk of Fame – becoming the first ever duo, and the first non-actors, to receive this honour.

The official unveiling of their star took place at 3.30pm on the footpath outside the iconic Ritz Cinema, immediately before the live event.

Randwick Mayor Dylan Parker said Randwick Council was thrilled to recognise two people who had done so much for Australian film.

“David and Margaret brought movie-going into our homes every week with passion, insight and humour,” Mayor Parker said.

“They shaped the way we talk about film in this country and have introduced generations of Australians to the magic of cinema. It’s an honour to welcome them to Randwick and celebrate their legacy.”

Margaret Pomeranz said she was touched to receive the honour: “I am thrilled to be given this acknowledgement by Randwick Council, particularly with its association to one of this country’s most innovative and pro-active cinemas. It is truly an honour.”

David Stratton also shared his appreciation: “This recognition by the Randwick Council is greatly appreciated. It is gratifying to be connected to the Ritz Cinema, which is one of the finest movie places in Australia.”
