Randwick City Council is supporting local businesses to expand their dining options as part of an alfresco program that has recently seen the likes of pasta shop, Spaghetteria, move their service onto the road.
Through the program, restaurants and cafes can apply for Council support to set up tables and seating on roads and outdoor spaces. Businesses must have an occupation of footway agreement in place.
Randwick Mayor Dylan Parker said Council’s alfresco dining program is about supporting local businesses, creating jobs and is part of a wider initiative – which includes Council’s fortnightly street festival Spot On – to boost outdoor dining experiences and the night-time economy in Randwick City.

“We’re reimagining how we share and enjoy our streets together,” Mayor Parker said. “By working with businesses to turn footpaths and roads into vibrant gathering places, we are creating more opportunities for community members to connect, relax, and enjoy our City.
“It's about building a stronger local economy and a more liveable, welcoming community for everyone.”
Spaghetteria, located on the corner of Clovelly and St Marks roads, in Randwick joins businesses such as Malabar’s Coastal Brasserie café and Randwick’s Dolci Fiori in recent years to offer customers the option to dine outside.

Spaghetteria director Stefano Sepe said his new outdoor space was a great addition to his business. “It’s perfect for big groups, and we’ll be putting six tables of two in the space, and maybe some lights to give it a vibe,” he said.
“I've been getting a lot of good feedback from people who live around the area, with customers saying they can’t wait to dine here.
“It’s been a great experience and I'm grateful to Council for offering this service, it has given us greater visibility.”
Mayor Parker said: “Spaghetteria’s new street dining area extends their outdoor dining permit, creating more vibrancy and adding to the alfresco culture of Randwick.
“I encourage more businesses to apply for Randwick City’s alfresco dining program.”
