Nominations are now open for the 2025 Randwick City Architecture and Urban Design Awards.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the biennial awards, which Randwick City Council launched in 2004 to recognise and celebrate the architects and designers behind outstanding buildings and renovations in the Local Government Area.
Randwick Mayor Dylan Parker said: “All the incredible buildings we have in Randwick City that help to bring to life our public spaces, town centres, housing and infrastructure are only possible because of experts in several fields. Council’s long-standing Randwick City Architecture and Urban Design Awards recognise and celebrate some of these experts.”
Past winners of the awards include Rolf Ockert Architect, which in 2023 won Best House for ‘Ravine House’, an impressive four-level abode built on a cliff’s edge in Coogee. The house features floor to ceiling windows overlooking the ocean and an X-shaped plan split in half by a rocky ravine. Bates Smart took home in 2020 Best Urban Project, Best Conservation Project and the People’s Choice Award for designing ‘Newmarket’, a mix of luxury apartments and commercial spaces in Randwick.
Mayor Parker said good design was a vital part of Council’s planning and development process. “High quality architecture and design not only enhance our urban environment but also play an essential role encouraging the wellbeing of our community,” he said. “At Council, we believe in creating spaces that are functional, sustainable and attractive; spaces where people feel proud to live, work and visit.”
This year’s awards include eight categories: Best House, Best Apartment, Best Alteration or Renovation, Best Conservations Project, Best Urban Project, a University of NSW (UNSW) Student Design Award, Best Sustainable Design and a People’s Choice Award. The awards are open to architects, landscape architects, urban designers, built environment professionals and UNSW students.
Nominations for the 2025 Randwick City Architecture and Urban Design Awards are now open until Monday 30 June 2025. For more information visit here. Shortlisted projects will be announced in early July and winners will be announced on Wednesday 13 August 2025.
