Randwick City Council is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the 2025 Architecture and Urban Design Awards on Wednesday 13 August at Prince Henry Centre, Little Bay, and is inviting community members to get involved.

Launched in 2004 by Randwick City Council, the biennial Awards recognise and celebrate architects and designers behind outstanding buildings and renovations in the Local Government Area.

Community members are invited to attend the free Awards ceremony to gain insight into works in the area, including pocket parks, youth and cultural centres, school buildings and housing. They can also have a say in this year’s results by casting their vote online for the People’s Choice Award. Voting closes Monday 4 August.

Deputy Mayor of Randwick, Councillor Marea Wilson, said the Awards celebrate outstanding talent, allowing the community to hear firsthand how experts are transforming Randwick City’s architectural legacy and enhancing its urban landscape.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for the community to connect with experts, hear about their vision for urban design, as well as the thinking and challenges that go on behind each project. They can be part of the judging process and choose their favourite design by voting in the People’s Choice Award,” Councillor Wilson said.

Council received 15 submissions from leading professionals and 16 student submissions, the highest to date. Judges will assess design excellence, combined with how the project integrates with the site and the local character of the LGA.

“The entries this year were of high calibre and have made a positive contribution to Randwick City’s diverse and unique urban environment. At Council, we believe in supporting the creation of spaces that are functional, innovative, sustainable and blend with existing design – buildings we can all feel proud of that can stand the test of time.”

This year’s award categories were: Best House, Best Alteration or Renovation, Best Apartment, Best Conservation Project, Best Urban Project, a University of NSW (UNSW) Student Design Award, Best Sustainable Design and a People’s Choice Award.
