One of Australia’s finest acting talents, David Wenham, has been inducted into the Australian Film Walk of Fame at a star-studded event at the Ritz Cinemas hosted by Randwick City Council.

A bronze plaque bearing David Wenham’s name was unveiled last night, 19 February 2025, at the gala event ahead of a special screening of his latest film, Spit.

Randwick Mayor Dylan Parker said David Wenham’s induction is a “fitting recognition of his extraordinary decades-long contribution to the world of television and film in Australia and around the world.”

“We are thrilled to host David in Randwick, and to acknowledge his contribution with a plaque on the Australian Film Walk of Fame.

“David’s work in major Australian films such as Moulin Rouge! and roles like the one he reprises in the Spit, have helped take a uniquely Australian style of storytelling to the world.”

David Wenham’s name is now immortalised on a bronze plaque in the footpath outside the much-loved Ritz Cinemas, joining other fellow actors, including Sigrid Thornton – who played his on-screen love interest in the classic Australian TV series Seachange.

Other Aussie actors include Claudia Karvan, Deborah Mailman, Michael Caton, Leah Purcell, Gary Sweet and others.

The unveiling ceremony featured speeches by David Wenham and Randwick Mayor Dylan Parker, and attended by fellow Spit cast members, Arlo Green, Sami Afuni and Indira Naidoo.

Randwick Council and the Australian Film Festival established the Walk of Fame in 2008, celebrating the local film industry and recognising the outstanding achievements of leading filmmakers and artists.

The initiative continues in partnership with the iconic Ritz Cinema at The Spot in Randwick, as part of Council’s ongoing work to support local businesses, artists and creatives and to transform the City’s highstreets into vibrant places for people.

The unveiling ceremony was followed by a Q&A with David and the film’s director, Jonathan Teplitzky and a special screening of Spit.

Spit will be released in cinemas on 6 March 2025.
