Pop up pedal park 2022

Ride, skate, scoot and jump! All three pop-up pedal parks are back for winter 2023, running from Friday 9 June until the end of August, Randwick Mayor Dylan Parker announced today Wednesday 31 May 2023.

“Popular among local kids and families, we’re delighted to be opening yet another season of pedal park fun, activating public space in a way that prioritises people and encourages outdoor play,” said Mayor Parker.

“Following strong expressions of community support, we expanded the pedal-park program in 2022 to include South Maroubra car park in addition to Chifley Reserve and Clovelly car parks where it all began in 2020. We’re excited to be bringing them back yet again and delivering the kind of recreational space the community is asking for.”

Pop-up pedal parks began operating in Randwick in June 2020 when Council reserved parts of Clovelly Beach car park and Chifley Reserve car park as spaces for kids to exercise during lockdown when beaches were closed and kids had rediscovered the timeless joy of riding a bike with friends.

In November 2020, Council then formally proposed to run the pedal park program for the following three winters to offer safe and accessible spaces for local families to use for outdoor recreation.

Various ramps were added to the spaces in 2021. A welcome addition, the exciting features will be back again this year, offering children fun ways to learn new skills and build their confidence.

The community is invited to come along and celebrate the official opening of the pedal park season at a launch party at South Maroubra carpark on Friday 9 June, 3.30-5pm. With free ice-cream and coffees on offer – this is a party not to be missed!
