Request an item

Due to the coronavirus we’ve closed many of our facilities including the Customer Service Centre. Please visit our COVID-19 page to see what is impacted.

There are 2 different ways of requesting for titles in English which the Library currently doesn't own - you can either request the Library to purchase an item, or you can place an inter-library loan request. However, as our libraries are currently closed to the public, interlibrary loans have been suspended until further notice.

For items not in English, please request items in other languages.

Please note: ILL requests take on average 3-4 weeks, but can take longer depending on item availability.

Suggest an Item for Purchase

Randwick City Library welcomes suggestions from library members for items to purchase including books, eBooks, journals, CDs, DVDs and eResources. Before making a suggestion, we recommend searching the online catalogue to see if it has already been ordered; items appearing "on order" can be reserved through the library catalogue by logging on with your library card number. If we're not able to purchase the item, you still may be able to get it through an Inter-library Loan Request.

Please note:

  • Only items published in the last 2 years will be considered for purchasing, unless it completes a set or a series we already own.
  • Randwick City Library reserves the right to decide the number of copies to be purchased and cannot fulfil every request.
  • The Library's Collection Development Policy PDF, 240.43 KB outlines purchasing and collection guidelines and priorities.
  • All purchases are subject to funding and at the discretion of Randwick City Library.

Request an Interlibrary Loan (currently suspended)

Please note: as our libraries are currently closed to the public, interlibrary loans have been suspended until further notice.

If the item you need is not available at our libraries and is older than 2 years, we can request a copy via our inter-library loans service. This service enables you to borrow books and other resources from libraries across Australia and the State Library of New South Wales. All items are borrowed and returned at Randwick City Library. You can also search for items across Australia using the trove website https://trove.nla.gov.au/ . We will contact you by mail, email or phone when the item is ready for pick up. See Interlibrary Loan fees.

NOTE: We’re performing scheduled maintenance on our site between 8pm on Wednesday 1 April 2020 and 3am on Thursday 2 April 2020. Forms will be down for 5 minutes during this time so if you experience issues please check back later. For urgent matters please phone Council's Call Centre on 1300 722 542, during business hours, 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

If requesting an Interlibrary loan, I will be subject to the replacement cost of the item, as determined by the lending library if I lose part or all of the item, or return it damaged. * If  you do not agree when making an ILL request, we will not source the item for you.
Please note most ILL requests take 3-4 weeks, and purchase suggestions depend stock availability.
