Book Clubs
Randwick City Library hosts several book clubs for library members. To join our library service, you can either register online or visit one of our three library locations.
Regular Book Clubs
We host fiction and history book clubs across our libraries. These are held monthly. Select the branches below to find out more.
The cost to join a regular book club is $28.00 per annum. This covers all the books purchased specifically for book clubs. Places are limited!

Malabar History Book Club – 1st Tuesday of the month at 10am - Full
Malabar Fiction Book Club – 3rd Tuesday of the month at 10am - Full
Lionel Bowen Library, Maroubra
Bowen Wednesday Fiction Book Club – 2nd Wednesday of the month at 1.30pm - Full
Bowen Tuesday Evening Book Club #1 – 4th Tuesday of the month at 6.30pm - Full
Bowen Tuesday Evening Book Club #2 – 4th Tuesday of the month at 6.30pm
Margaret Martin Library, Randwick
Randwick Fiction Book Club – 3rd Thursday of the month at 11am
Randwick History Book Club – 4th Thursday of the month at 6pm
Casual Book Clubs
Cult Classic Book Club is a casual book club held monthly between February - November. Members source their own copies, and membership for this club is free.
Book Chat - if you want to just chat about what you're reading, and hear recommendations from others, then Book Chat is for you! This is held monthly at Margaret Martin Library in Randwick, and Lionel Bowen Library in Maroubra. It is a free event, but spaces are limited. Book your spot now!
Hosting Your Own
Do you have your own book club? Then our Book Club in a Box is perfect. Starting or running a Book Club is easy with our kits containing 10 copies of the same book, tips for running a book club, plus discussion questions to get you started.
You can also use our eBooks - your book club can use the simultaneous loans available through IndyReads, Hoopla or BorrowBox.
Inside the Book Club in a Box (BCIB) kit
The Book Club in a Box (BCIB) kit consist of:
- 10 copies of a specially chosen book
- A list of suggested discussion questions for that particular title
- Tips for starting and running a successful book club
- Terms and conditions
Book Club in a Box Terms and Conditions
The Terms and Conditions for Book Club in a Box (BCIB) are:
- Only Adult library members are able to borrow or reserve a Book Club in a Box.
- Only Two (2) kits at a time can be borrowed.
- You must check that all the contents are in the box before you borrow it.
- The kit must be returned together, no books can be returned separately. You are responsible for the entire contents of the kit and will incur any charges that arise from missing parts.
- BCIB kits must be returned in person to staff at the desk during library opening hours. They can be returned to any branch of Randwick City Library.
- The person who borrowed the kit is responsible for all copies of the book and the box in which they are contained. If your group loses or damages a book or the box, it must be replaced. Damage includes anything beyond normal wear and tear from reading.
