Toy and Game Library

Randwick City Toy and Game Library provides a sustainable, economical and community-driven service to ensure your child always has access to a range of high-quality toys.

For the price of one toy per year, toy library members gain access to over 2,500 educational and fun toys for children aged 6 months to 12 years, with collections in all 3 library locations.

All toys and games within the collection have been carefully selected for their educational value and meet safety and quality standards.

Child Development Play Workshops

  • The Toy and Game Library Service hosts workshops exploring the importance of play for children 0-24 months. Parents, carers and their children are very welcome.
  • Play Workshops are facilitated by an Early Childhood Educator and free of charge for Toy and Game Library members, although bookings are essential.
  • Find out how children learn through play and the toys and activities that are suitable for each stage of their development.

Come and Play Sessions

  • The Toy and Game Library Service hosts monthly Come and Play sessions for children aged 0-5 years.
  • See the Randwick City Library Events for children webpage for details.
  • Drop in at any time throughout the session to enjoy lots of toys, games, learning and fun! There will be both themed and free play areas with lots to enjoy.
  • Toy Library staff will be there to talk to you about our wonderful Toy and Game Library and how children of all ages learn through play.

Your responsibilities: Terms and Conditions

By joining the Toy and Game Library you have agreed to the Fees and Charges and agreed to accept and abide by our Terms and Conditions, as outlined below.

Joining

  • To register for a Toy and Game Library membership, visit a library location or sign up via our online registration form.
  • Your membership is only valid for the period that you have paid for.
  • Randwick City Council residents holding a valid Centrelink, Health Care or Pension Card are exempt from payment.
  • Toy and Game Library members must be over 18 years of age.
  • Toy and Game membership is fee-based. You may opt for a 12-month membership or a short term, 9-week membership. Please check the current list of Library Fees & Charges.

Borrowing

  • Toys and games can only be borrowed with a Toy and Game Library membership.
  • A total of 8 toys/games can be borrowed, for a period of up to three weeks.
  • It is your responsibility to check that the contents of each item match the contents listed on the label. Please do this on the day of borrowing to make sure there are no missing or damaged parts.
  • Toys and games may contain small pieces that can be hazardous to young children. Please read warning labels on toys and games.
  • Any problems must be reported via the online Toy Problem Form or over the phone to library staff on the day of borrowing.
  • Borrowers will be charged for missing or damaged pieces if issues are not reported to us on the day of borrowing. Please refer to the Library Fees & Charges for details.

Reserving

  • Large toys can only be reserved and picked up/collected from the library branch where they are located.
  • Reserve items online, via the Randwick City Library App, in person or by telephone.

Renewing

  • Toys and games can be renewed up to three times in total. Renewals are automatic, and occur on the due date.
  • Renewals cannot occur if the item is overdue, reserved by another borrower or reaching the maximum renewal limit. Renewals cannot occur if your toy library membership expires within the renewal period, has outstanding fees or is suspended.
  • You can also renew items online, via the Randwick City Library App, in person or by telephone.
  • If you have overdue items your membership will be suspended. You will not be able to borrow until the overdue item(s) have been returned.

At home

  • The Toy and Game Library Service is a lending service, and items are to be opened for play at home - not in the library.
  • Please supervise the use of the toys and games in your home and be aware of safety labels and recommendations for use.
  • Please do not leave toys outside exposed to the weather.
  • Toys and their plastic containers must be cleaned before they are returned.
  • Toys can be cleaned by wiping them with a cloth and soapy water. Please do not immerse toys in water.

Returning

  • Toys and Games must be returned to the library from where they were borrowed.
  • Toys and games must be returned with all pieces and packaging. We cannot accept the return of incomplete toys.
  • Incomplete items can be renewed until the missing pieces are located.
  • Borrowers will be charged for loss or damage to toys, games, and packaging. Borrowing privileges will be suspended until outstanding fees and charges are paid.
