Lionel Bowen Young Writers' Award 2024 - Competition Terms and Conditions

  1. The promoter of this Competition is Randwick City Council (the “Council”), c/o Lionel Bowen Library and Community Centre, 669-673 Anzac Parade Maroubra NSW 2035.
  2. Entry to the Lionel Bowen Young Writers’ Competition 2024 (the “Competition”) is open to students who live or attend a school in Randwick City local government area or neighbouring local government areas, and are currently enrolled and completing years 3 to 12 in 2024 (or equivalent). An entrant must be an individual and cannot be a company or organisation. Employees of the Council and their family members, any person associated with the Competition and any person associated with the provision of the prizes are not eligible to enter.
  3. Eligible entries must be submitted online no later than 11.59pm on Sunday 11 August 2024. In the event of difficulty accessing the online form, entries can be emailed to lionelbowenyoungwriters@randwick.nsw.gov.au
  4. There is no cost to entering the competition.
  5. Only one entry per person, per category will be accepted. Additional entries will be disregarded, with only the first entry being accepted.
  6. To enter the Competition, each entrant must:
    1. Write a short story no longer than 2,000 words or a poem no longer than 30 lines, that reflects the theme "The Future is Wild".
    2. Complete an entry form and submit their entry by Sunday 11 August 2024 11.59pm via the online entry form at https://www.randwick.nsw.gov.au/library/library-events/lionel-bowen-young-writers-award/lionel-bowen-young-writers-award-online-registration
    3. If the entrant is under the age of 16 then each entry form must contain the contact details of the entrant’s parent or guardian acknowledging their consent for the entrant to participate.
  7. By filling and submitting the entry form, each entrant (or their parent/legal guardian) agrees that:
    1. All details provided with the entry are true and correct;
    2. All work submitted must be original and created by the person submitting the entry. The use of any AI tools is not permitted in the writing process;
    3. All entries become property of the Council and will not be returned;
    4. By participating, each entrant agrees to grant the Council, and its partners, all rights to use the entry and any personal details provided for promotional, marketing and publicity purposes of the Council in any media without notice and without any fee being paid to the entrant, subject to the Council’s Privacy Policy found at: www.randwick.nsw.gov.au;
  8. The entrants whose entry is judged by the Council’s panel of judges to be the most original and creative, considering how the narrative is constructed, the use of language (including creative expression, grammar, sentence construction, punctuation, and spelling), as well as character development, atmosphere, and setting, will be awarded a prize. There are three prizes per division per category. The judge’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Shortlisted entrants / winners will be notified by email and/or telephone and will be asked to attend the prize-giving Award ceremony towards the end of this year (date to be confirmed).
