The Des Renford Leisure Centre (DRLC) has officially renamed their training pool the "Rodgers Brothers Training Pool" in honour of the swimming legends, John and Barry Rodgers.

The Rodgers brothers were not only passionate and dedicated swimmers and lifesavers, but they also stood out as mentors and leaders in their community, leaving a significant impact not only in Maroubra but throughout Australia.

Back in the 1960s, the Rodgers brothers played an instrumental role in the construction of the 25-meter pool at the Des Renford Leisure Centre, formerly known as Heffron Pool. The pair then launched their very own Learn to Swim Program named The John and Barry Rodgers Swim School, dedicating a significant part of their lives to teaching children how to swim.

On Sunday, October 8th, Randwick City Council hosted a renaming ceremony at the Des Renford Leisure Centre, with the Rodgers family and former students in attendance to honour the dedication and contributions of the Rodgers brothers to the community.

Newly Elected Mayor Phillipa Veitch stated, “It is only fitting that we gather here today to rename this pool in their honour. As young, and up and coming swimmers look at the sign and read their names, I hope they are filled with inspiration and desire, not only to succeed in swimming, but to make a change in their community. Because without a doubt, the biggest legacy John and Barry Rodgers leave behind, is their passion for their community.”
