Consultation has concluded

Just as mysterious as its appearance in 2008, the recent overnight solving of Maroubra Beach's iconic Rubik's Cube in December has left the community wondering why it was solved after all this time, and whether it should have been solved at all!

It’s a question that is dividing the normally laid-back Maroubra community – do you like it solved or unsolved?

The original artwork and the recent repainting were undertaken by guerilla artists who creatively reimagined the square concrete air vent on top of a stormwater outlet.

While Randwick Council refreshes the cube with new paint periodically or when damaged, we have not been involved in the creation of the artwork, or its re-creation as solved.

We want to know what the community thinks of the cube’s recent evolution from unsolved to solved.

Tell us your thoughts.
