Renovating Heritage Properties

The final talk of the 2018 Architecture on Show series focused on renovating heritage properties.

Mandie Purcell of Modern Heritage Matters discussed how a good understanding of heritage can lead to the transformation of old buildings to meet the desire for contemporary living while achieving design excellence. The presentation focused on what heritage listings mean, what the process is for change and how the best results from that process can be achieved.

Brad Muller of DM2 Architecture presented on the approaches to the parameters of character and heritage; citing examples of the alterations and additions to the local heritage item at the Greville Street residence in Clovelly. The project has it all; restoration, rehabilitation, and a contemporary response for everyday living that compliments the heritage underpinnings.

The talk was curated by Andrew Nimmo, NSW Chapter President, Australian Institute of Architects.
