Children’s Book Week 2019
Children’s Book Week is fast approaching! Randwick City Library is hosting a variety of activities to bring children and books together and celebrate the amazing world of Australian children's literature.
This year, Children’s Book Week will be held across Saturday 17 August – Friday 23 August and will focus on the theme Reading is My Secret Power. To celebrate, we’re holding some exciting competitions and events.
- For kids in school years K–2: Superhero Portraits!
If reading was your secret power what sort of hero would you be? Draw and colour in a picture of yourself as a superhero on the special entry form.
Download or pick up the competition entry form for school years K–2 from any Randwick City Library branch. Each entrant's finished work will be displayed at Randwick City Library during Book Week with a winner selected from each school year. Remember to include your details on page 2. Entries need to be dropped into any Randwick City Library branch by Friday 16 August 2019.
- For kids in school years 3–6: With Great Reading Power Comes Great Responsibility
You wake up one morning to find out that you are now a superhero! Your secret power? Reading! How would you use your powers as a force for good? Write and draw about it on the special entry form.
Download or pick up the competition entry form for school years 3–6 from any Randwick City Library location. Each entrant's finished work will be displayed at Randwick City Library during Book Week with a winner selected from each school year. Remember to include your details on page 2. - For teens: The Best Young Adult Books of the Year
Join other young book lovers on Thursday 22 Aug to celebrate the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s (CBCA's) 2019 shortlisted young adult novels.
- Shortlisted authors for the Older Readers category include Scot Gardner, Claire Atkins, Sarah Epstein, Karen Foxlee, Steven Herrick and Sharon Kernot.
Members of the Teen Book Club meet at our Margaret Martin Branch in Randwick on a monthly basis to discuss set books and items they've read recently. Come along and join fellow readers in a fun discussion of a variety of titles, genres and film adaptations.
- For everyone: Picture Book Prize Competition
Head into the library and check out the CBCA's Early Childhood shortlist. Pick up a voting form in the Library or download one and vote for your favourite book – you'll then be in the running to win a prize pack featuring all six of these beautiful books! Drop your vote into the entry box at any Randwick City Library branch by Tuesday 20 August 2019 to be in the draw.
- For everyone: Meet the authors Kate and Jol Temple
Come along to Lionel Bowen Library in Maroubra at 5pm to enjoy a special book week performance from award-winning author duo Kate and Jol. Booking is essential as space is limited. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
