Message from the gym bunnies: enjoy the festive season but, don't let your hard work go to waste :)
- If no amount of willpower is going to keep you from the foods featured on the nutritional naughty list this Christmas, then make sure you are eating your favourite holiday foods in small portions.
- Prepare healthy dishes and snacks.
Fruit and vegetable platters are great to prepare for your guests or to bring along if someone else is hosting.
Fill up on salads first so you don’t go nuts on the "good" stuff.
- If someone is constantly topping up your wine glass, get rid of it – put it in the dishwasher or leave it full and leave it alone.
- Beware of family/peer pressure to eat more.
Politely decline plate top-ups or offers of seconds and stand by it. Ask your family to be supportive of your health goals.
- Be active!
Take off on a beach or bush walk, play beach or backyard cricket, walk around the neighbourhood looking at Christmas lights or play with the kids. Gyms are usually pretty quiet around this time of year, so if you are sticking around it might be a good opportunity to book a free appointment to see a trainer and have the gym to yourself - bonus!
