Alchemy Duo – the magical combination of cello and guitar – offers a fresh interpretation of popular music genres including jazz, Latin, gypsy, pop and world music through the innovative musical pairing of two string instruments from different worlds.

Renowned Ukrainian Cellist Anatoli Torjinski specializes in alternative styles, improvisation and different types of sound production including ponticello, harmonics, percussion, hammering, slapping and pizzicato on his cello. His influences include string players such as Stephan Grappelli and Jean Luc Ponty, and as a former rock guitarist, he has also drawn from Jimi Hendrix, Richie Blackmore and Jimmy Page. His work has had him nominated in the Aria Awards for Best Record of 2001 and in 2003 he went on to win an Aria Award for Best World Music Album playing with Monsieur Camembert.

Talented English Guitarist Gavin Libotte has been lucky enough to live the dream, playing guitar for a living, performing at concerts and festivals and making beautiful music with his talented peers. Gavin studied classical and Jazz guitar at the Conservatorium in Perth before embarking on the gypsy lifestyle. After travelling the world, busking in exotic places like India and the Greek Islands, he formed the original jazz/Latin fusion guitar band Urban Gypsies which later morphed into Gavin Libotte Guitar.

The Alchemy Duo – whose chops feature heavily in the Samsara album – is the happy combination of these two high-energy, experimental and complex musical aficionados. Witness the melodic chemistry as Gavin and Anatoli turn simple tunes into instrumental gold in this acoustic performance inside the Watchtower!
