Space to Create

A new space has been created at Lionel Bowen Library in Maroubra for our local creative community. Called ‘Space to Create’, the level 3 premises is available for use by artists to produce work and enhance the creative life of our community.

“Providing artists with a space to create not only supports individual expression but also enriches our community, with the hope that some of the work will adorn our community,” said Dylan Parker, Mayor of Randwick.

Resident writers and creatives will have access to the library’s extensive collection of books and materials, including maps and photographs to help inspire their work. Additionally, they’ll have the opportunity to showcase their work and provide talks or workshops about their work at the end of their residency.

Eight suites of varying sizes are available in the new space for a six-month residency period, with the potential to extend to 12-months. A small fee will be charged at an affordable rate for use of the space. Fees and charges are currently on exhibition and will be confirmed before the end of 2022. Local creatives are invited to submit their Expression of Interest to use the space through Council’s website, to become a Space to Create resident in 2023.

Residency is open to all writers and creatives working across various artforms (e.g. digital art, fashion, calligraphy, collage, crafts, drawing, graphic art, installation art, jewellery, mixed media, painting, mosaics, textile art, film, video, video games etc).

“Randwick City Council is committed to supporting the growth and diversity of arts and cultural activities in ways that benefit the community. I look forward to seeing what will be created in these exciting new spaces right here in the heart of Maroubra,” said Mayor Parker.

Creatives are invited to submit their Expression of Interest to become a Space to Create 2023 Resident online. Submissions close 14 November 2022.
