The Socceroos will be cheered on from Maroubra Beach, with Randwick Council hosting a free outdoor live screening of the World Cup match between Australia and Argentina on Sunday 4 December, from 6am.
“To make it to the final 16 is a huge moment for the Socceroos and for Australia,” Mayor Parker said.
“The Maroubra Beach live screening gives our community the chance to come together to cheer on the Socceroos and to witness this moment in time with family and friends.”
The live screen will be set up at Arthur Byrne Reserve, across from McKeon Street Plaza. Local businesses will be open to sell breakfast and coffees. Plus, Maroubra United Football Club (whose colours are also green and gold) will be running a breakfast BBQ.
“Come along, watch the sunrise, bring a picnic blanket and cheer on the Socceroos!” said Mayor Parker.
After their thrilling 1-0 win over Denmark, the Socceroos have moved through the final 16 for the second time in history. The Socceroos have never won a FIFA World Cup, with their best performance being the last time they made it to the final 16 in 2006.
