Randwick City Council’s public facilities and service centres will remain closed for another week following the NSW Government’s decision today to extend Sydney’s lockdown for a third week until 11.59pm Friday 16 July 2021.

The decision means Council’s libraries, Customer Service Centre, Recycling Centre, Community Nursery, Des Renford Leisure Centre, La Perouse Museum and halls and community centres will keep their doors closed during that time.

Stay-at-home orders for Randwick City residents and workers will continue to apply with people not permitted to leave their homes unless they have a reasonable excuse.

Reasonable excuses include obtaining food, travel for work or education if it is not possible to do at home, exercise, medical reasons, safety or legal reasons (see full list on NSW Health website).

Residents may still attend COVID testing and vaccination sites and are encouraged to do so, particularly if they have even the mildest symptoms.

Residents are also encouraged to monitor local COVID case locations and follow instructions from NSW Health if they have attended any of the transmission venues of concerns.

Randwick Mayor Danny Said encouraged the community to look after each over the coming week.

“I’d like to thank Randwick City residents for how you’ve responded to the lockdown. People are generally doing the right thing, getting tested, maintaining social distancing and looking out for one another.

“For those in isolation, I know you’re doing it tough, but please hang in there for the greater good of your family and friends and broader community.

“This third week of lockdown also means parents with school aged kids will need to homeschool their children. As a father myself and with two school teachers in my family, I know how challenging this is. Do the best you can with the time you have, but don’t worry if things aren’t perfect. Everyone’s situation is different and in the greater scheme of things, a week is a short amount of time.”

Randwick Council’s parks, playgrounds, ocean pools and beaches remain open for exercise only. Lights at some sports fields and parks are on nightly until 9pm.

Randwick Council is continuing to offer regular Council services and can be contacted via its call centre 1300 722 542 or online at

Council staff who can work from home have been instructed to work from home until further notice. Frontline Council staff will continue offering essential services and there will be no disruption to garbage collection or waste and cleansing services.
